Here are the items that sit faithfully, night in and night out on my bedside table...
The single greatest lifetime supply of chap stick known to man, three books; the first I write a little bit in, the second I open to go over what tomorrow will bring (or at least what it should bring), and the third I write some other things in.
Lastly there is my messy box of jewels. Mr. Smith keeps all the reading materials on his side of the bed which makes him look like the smart one, but I'm totally good with that.
This is our bed. Our temporary place of rest in Grandma T.'s basement.
It's kinda fantastic that any place can become home so long as your bedtime rituals are the same. I love slash hate the way I have to hurriedly tuck duck and roll into bed after turning off the light at night. I don't know what I'm going to tell our future children when they ask about monsters under the bed. I also love the weight of the comforter as it parachutes lightly down over everything but my head. It's the perfect amount of heavy... just enough to make you dozy.
I love it when he spells out "I love you" on my arm with his fingerpen...it's always followed with way too many exclamation marks.
I love it when our legs and feet get all jumbled up in one big cuddle knot because it helps to keep my icicle feet warm. When we laugh so hard we wheeze and maybe snort a little bit when telling each other about our day it's definitely my favorite...and I love nestling my face up into the crook of his neck because falling asleep inside a manly half hug is possibly the safest feeling there is.
When it's time to wake up, I love squeezing my eyes shut really really tight, and stretching out every limb as far as I can. It makes me think of laffy taffy people and that is just ridiculous every time. I love the way it feels to run my sleepy toes and warm cheek across the cold pillow and sheets in the morning. I make sure to set my alarm 10 minutes before I have to get out of bed so that I always have time to do these things.
I also love the way he mumbles that he loves me after I kiss his cheek. It's the last thing I do before heading to work on the early mornings (M,W,F). Bedtime is the best time no matter where you get to lay your head, and I definitely love that too.
